The North Central Montana Angus Association
Rooted in tradition and driven by excellence, the North Central Montana Angus Association brings together producers, families, and cattlemen committed to advancing the Angus breed across Montana’s Hi-Line. Our association represents purebred and commercial Angus cattle producers, uniting the best of both worlds. Our region is known for its wide-open landscapes, strong agricultural heritage, and longstanding dedication to raising high-quality beef. NCMTAA exists to support those ranching legacies while fostering innovation, education, and community.
How We Started
The North Central Montana Angus Association was formed in 1999 to bring together producers from across the Hi-Line who shared a passion for Angus genetics and a commitment to strengthening the region’s cattle industry. Originally known as the Milk River Angus Association, we became the North Central Montana Angus Association in 2006. Our membership has grown to reach a current enrollment of close to thirty voting members within three counties. Over the years, NCMTAA has supported ranchers through educational events, tours, and industry collaboration.
The Angus Breed: A Legacy of Quality
Originating in the rolling hills of Scotland, the Angus breed has earned a global reputation for hardiness, maternal excellence, adaptability, and unmatched beef quality. Angus cattle were first brought to the United States in the late 1800s and quickly became the preferred breed for ranchers seeking dependable genetics and premium carcass traits.
Today, Angus cattle are celebrated not only for their marbling and meat quality, but also for traits that ranchers rely on—fertility, longevity, calving ease, and consistent performance in diverse environments. Montana’s climate and terrain have proven to be an ideal match, contributing to some of the most respected Angus herds in the nation.
“These old black cows have been good to me.”
